Reason for not taking substance DDM: Originally it was just a small rebellion against his parents. Before he came of age, his parents made him get all sorts of shots, and he hated it. As soon as he became a legal adult, he stopped getting any shots whatsoever. When the threat of quarantine came up, it became his escape. Though the first year and a bit of his program went smoothly enough, after that his marks plummeted, and he was now at risk of failing out. He didn't want to have to reveal this to his parents as it was their idea, not his, for him to become a doctor. By not taking DDM, he was free of his program and his parents in one fell swoop.
